Over a decade of war and digital embargo has devastated Syria's telecoms infrastructure. More than half of the country's networks were reportedly destroyed or rendered inoperable. Connectivity was frequently manipulated as a tool of repression and the national market fractured into a patchwork of foreign-provided and informal services.
In response to these challenges, Syria's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has unveiled several initiatives to modernise its digital infrastructure.
