By 2030, the share of green energy generated from hydropower, wind, and solar sources is expected to increase to around 59 percent of the country’s total energy mix, disclosed by the Pakistan Economic Survey 2024-25, released here Monday.
If this trend continues, total battery imports could reach 8.75 GWh by 2030. This would be enough to meet over a quarter of peak demand, while solar could cover most daytime electricity needs. This surge in solar and batteries is driving down energy costs and improving reliability for individual users in Pakistan.
Solar power entered Pakistan’s energy mix in 2013 after the government introduced a set of support policies to foster renewable energy development. According to the Private Power & Infrastructure Board (PPIB) of the Ministry of Energy, seven solar projects of 530 MW are operational and supplying electricity to the national grid.
